The Kansas Forest Service launched its Cooperative Fire Protection
Program in 1962. For over four decades the program has provided assistance
in the prevention and suppression of wildland fires.
"Empowering fire departments to provide better service to Kansans
through leadership, service and education."
KFS works directly with fire departments to improve their fire protection capabilities
through various programs. Vehicle and equipment acquisition is provided
through the Federal Excess Property
Program and Equipment Donation Program,
financial assistance is provided through
cost share programs.
Master Fire Plans are written at no charge to provide long range planning direction for fire departments across the state.
Fire Management also
offers
wildland fire training
courses and a
fire prevention service. The Kansas Forest Service is the state sponsor of a national program aimed at protecting your home in the event of a wildfire.
That program is
Firewise-Kansas.
The Fire Management Program administers the
Incident Qualification System (Red Card) to assist Kansas firefighters with eligibility requirements necessary to participate in Federal All-Risk
Incidents involving USDA-Forest Service and Department of Interior management teams.
The Fire Management Program also provides
publications,
training,
employment,
weather,
prescribed fire management and
other organization links.
Kansas Fire Management activities should in no way impair soil and water quality.
