Fire Prevention

Smokey Bear has become an American icon over the past 50 years, reminding Americans of the importance of outdoor fire safety and wildfire prevention.  Fires, in almost every case, are able to be prevented.  However, house fires and wildfires continually devastate American lives and property.

With this in mind, the Kansas Forest Service Fire Management Program is focused on helping Smokey Bear spread his message.  Fire Prevention materials are available in reasonable quantities at no cost to Kansas fire departments and other fire related organizations.  Available items include:

  • Smokey Bear wooden rulers
  • Smokey Bear pencils and pens
  • Posters
  • Brochures
  • Patches
  • Balloons
  • Coloring Books
  • Homeowner Brochures
  • Letter Openers
  • Calendars

Smokey Bear costumes are also available for loan. The costumes must be utilized in an appropriate manner that includes a fire prevention message. The costumes may be requested up to 6 months in advance. It is recommended you reserve a costume early for events such as the 4th of July or Fire Prevention Week.  Items will only be shipped to locations within the State of Kansas.

For more information on Smokey Bear, his story, games, and how you may help prevent fires, visit the official Smokey Bear web site.
