Kansas Forest Inventory

State-wide inventories of Kansas forestland have occurred in 1937, 1965, 1981 and 1994. These inventories, with the exception of 1937, have been accomplished through an important partnership with the Kansas Forest Service and the USDA Forest Service, North Central Experiment Station’s Forest Inventory and Analysis Program (FIA).

FIA is a national program that conducts and maintains comprehensive inventories of the forest resources in the United States.  In 1998, Congress mandated FIA switch from a periodic to an annual inventory.  The annual inventory system, which began in 2001, measures 20% of the state each year, completing a full inventory in 5 years.  Annual reports are provided each year, with a comprehensive report at the end of each 5 year cycle.  Reports from the FIA Inventory program are available in PDF format below, along with a table summarizing all reports.
