Jim Strine is the District Forester for northwest Kansas.  He has been the Northwest District Forester since 1978.  Prior to 1978 he worked one year as a research assistant in the Forestry Department at Kansas State University.  Jim received a B.S. degree in Forest Management from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a M.S. degree in Forest management from Oklahoma State University.  He was raised in Atchison County in northeast Kansas.

Jim is responsible for providing technical assistance to communities and rural landowners within his district.  He assists communities by conducting tree inventories and training city personnel on proper tree planting and care.  Jim assists landowners in establishing and managing windbreaks and other conservation tree plantings.  He is also the coordinator for the Kansas Champion Tree Program.

Jim is also the Rural Forester for the NW District.
