Email Jason, Call 785-532-3316, or FAX 785.532-3305

On April 11th, 2005, Jason Hartman began serving as Fire Prevention Specialist with the Kansas Forest Service.  In this position, Jason will work with Fire Departments, schools, civic groups, home owners associations, as well as state, county and city officials to promote and address wildland fire prevention issues around the State.  Fire Prevention work also includes mitigating the risks to lives and property before a wildland fire happens.  With an ever increasing percentage of the population moving out of urban areas in to surrounding rural areas, the risks from wildland fire to homes and other property are increasing daily.  Jason will use several tools to assist Kansas with wildfire prevention including Smokey Bear, Firewise Kansas, the media and interactive educational displays.

This position is a return to Kansas for Jason.  He graduated high school in Elkhart, KS, where his father is District Ranger for the US Forest Service.  He then went on to college at Oklahoma State University where he earned his B.S. in Forestry.  He has forestry and wildland fire fighting experience in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma and Wyoming.  Jason comes back to Kansas after 2 years gaining valuable experience while working for the Missouri Department of Conservation as a Resource Forester.

On a national level, Jason holds qualifications as a FFT1 and ICT5.  With every available opportunity, Jason will be working to increase his list of qualifications and experience fighting wildland fires in Kansas and around the USA.  Jason will then use this experience to get out and help the communities of Kansas reduce and manage the risks of wildland fire.

At home, Jason enjoys time with his daughter as well as his wife, who is also involved in wildland fire and forestry.
