Billy was raised near Kalamazoo, Michigan, and has lived and worked in a number of places throughout the Midwest. He has a B.S. in Professional Forestry from Michigan State University (2003), and M.S. in Forest Hydrology from Southern Illinois University (2010). Prior to focusing on water resources, Billy has had the opportunity to work in a variety of forestry fields including timber management, forest products, forest science, fire suppression, and arboriculture.

As KFS Watershed Forester, Billy works statewide to promote the establishment, management, and protection of Kansas’ riparian forests for the enhancement of water quality. He enjoys working with the diverse array of people that are needed to make water quality efforts work – from landowners, biologists, and foresters – to engineers, planners, and policy makers.

Billy also represents KFS within the Kansas Alliance for Wetlands and Streams (KAWS), the Kansas Riparian Work Group, and the state Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) work group.

Outside of work, he can usually be found hunting, fishing, or watching St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball. Billy and his wife live in Riley, Kansas.
