Forestry and Prescribed Fire Contractors
Forestry and Prescribed Fire Contractors may also include some of the same people listed as Forestry Consultants, however, not all these people have degrees in forestry. Their experience and knowledge varies and should be affirmed by checking references. The list below includes people with limited to extensive forestry and prescribed fire knowledge and experience. Always use a professional, experienced or SAF certified forester to mark trees for thinning or to design tree plantings. Kansas Forest Service rural foresters and consulting foresters are available to mark trees and design tree plantings.
We have used the map below to identify service areas for each contractor. This does not obligate these businesses to cover the entire district, but is intended to give landowners a general idea of each business's area of coverage.
Each service provider has selected one or more areas of service that they provide. Service providers may only offer some of the services in each category. Please use the table below to learn more about each area of service and what specific jobs or tasks that may entail.
Includes: Timber stand improvement (TSI), Riparian or streamside management, Brush or underbrush clearing, Forestry mulching or mowing, Edge-feathering, Targeted grazing (e.g., goats), Invasive species control, Herbicide application, Tree removal, cutting, thinning, or trimming. Includes: Lot, trail, or access road clearing, Fence line clearing, Pond, terrace, or other dirt work construction, Skid steer or machinery services, Rangeland tree removal, Native grass or forb planting, Food plot creation, Wildlife habitat improvement or restoration. Includes: Site preparation, grading, or excavation, Tree and shrub planting (hand or machine), Windbreak establishment or renovation, Reforestation or afforestation, Fabric or drip irrigation installation, Weed barrier fabric installation. Includes: Firebreak or defensible space creation, Prescribed burning, Brush pile burning, Fire mitigation or fuel reduction.

Contractors and forestry or fire-related businesses are critical to the work and mission of the Kansas Forest Service. In most of the state, there is a shortage of firefighters, forestry contractors, and in the western part of the state, certified arborists.
