Conservation Seedlings

Tree Species

These tree species include native and adapted cultivars that perform well in Kansas. Most of these species are available for purchase through our Conservation Tree program. Check our Conservation Tree Webstore for an up to date product list. Species are divided based on species type or use.

Cottonwood leaf

Deciduous trees are generally used for soil stabilization because of their deep root systems and in the inner rows of windbreaks for height, and to provide food and cover for wildlife.

Windbreak

Evergreens are typically used as the dense aspect of windbreaks, for Christmas tree plantings, and roosting for certain bird species.

Chokecherry

Shrubs are often used for outside rows of windbreaks, providing food and cover for small animals including upland birds and songbirds.
