Callery Pear Buyback Program
Remove a Callery pear tree from your property and we will offer a free native tree as a replacement!
There will be three Callery pear buyback events across Kansas in May 2026. These programs will offer replacement trees to folks who sign up and can show proof that they have removed a Callery pear tree from their property.
Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) and its cultivars: ‘Bradford’, ‘Cleveland Select’, ‘Aristocrat’, are all eligible for this program.
We encourage you to remove your Callery pear tree as soon as possible to limit the spread of this invasive species. Any trees documented and removed in 2025 or 2026 will be eligible for the 2026 events. You will be asked to provide a photo of your tree standing and second photo of the stump, or provide a bill from an arborist confirming the removal. This program does not fund tree removals. Please make sure to reach out to a KAA or ISA-certified arborist for all tree removals!

No trees will be given away outside of the provided dates and locations. If you cannot attend the event, or cannot arrange for someone to pick up your trees, do not sign up for a replacement tree.
We will make every effort to give you the tree species you prefer, but each species is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Promoting Healthy Trees
This program would not be possible without funding from our partners at Evergy and in-kind donatinos from our friends at Forrest Keeling. The logistics for this event were coordinate by The Kansas Forest Service, Riley County Extension, Sedgwick County Extension, and the Midway Extension Distict.
